Our Story
A Lodge Built with Purpose
Mombacho Lodge was founded with a single conviction: that the best way to protect a forest is to let people fall in love with it. We built our cabins on the slopes of Volcán Mombacho not to tame the wilderness, but to open a door into it.
Every structure was designed to sit lightly on the land — raised on stilts, built from local materials, and positioned to leave the canopy intact. The lodge has grown slowly and deliberately, always guided by what the forest can sustain.
Today Mombacho Lodge is a small, family-run retreat where guests come to disconnect, explore, and leave with a deeper understanding of one of Central America's most biodiverse ecosystems.

How We Think About the Land
Low-impact construction
Cabins built on stilts with local materials — no land clearing, no concrete foundations.

Rainwater collection and responsible water use throughout the property.
Wildlife corridors
The lodge sits within an active wildlife corridor used by howler monkeys, toucans, and over 200 bird species.
Estate coffee
Our coffee is grown on the Mombacho estate, harvested by hand, and roasted locally — no supply chain, no middlemen.
Local employment
Our entire team is from the surrounding communities of Granada and Nandaime.
Waste reduction
We compost kitchen waste, minimise single-use plastics, and work with local recycling programmes.

The Volcano
Volcán Mombacho
Volcán Mombacho is an extinct stratovolcano rising 1,344 metres above the Pacific lowlands of Nicaragua, just 10 kilometres south of the colonial city of Granada.
Its upper slopes are protected as a nature reserve and covered in cloud forest — a rare ecosystem characterised by near-constant mist, extraordinary biodiversity, and a silence that is hard to find anywhere else in Central America.
The lodge sits at 520 metres — above the heat of the valley, below the cloud line, in a zone of permanent green where the air is cool and the wildlife is everywhere.
